I know that when you haven’t seen a tool before, you want to see what it looks like…well, I know that I do, so I thought I’d include a few screenshots of the Keyword Research tool, since I use that one almost exclusively.
You can take your keyword – no matter how vague or specific, and find out other keywords you should use. You’ll also find out which are the best ones to use based on a set of “rules” that they have a default of, or you can choose your own.
Here is an example. I don’t know anything about fishing, so I typed in fishing into the keyword tool to see what kind of keywords I would find.
I then clicked on “Generate Keywords”, and all of the sudden had 800 keywords about fishing. As you might be able to tell, you get all types of words with fishing (or fish) in them. Some of them might have nothing to do with your niche though. For example, if you wanted to do a site or article about going fishing, you wouldn’t want to rank well for the keyword fish tank accessories, so you then get rid of all of the ones that had nothing to do with what you want…and then click on “Analyze Keywords”.
What happens then is based on the rules you set (or the default ones), you’ll only have a small subset of the keywords, and these are the ones you should consider using. In this case, I was left with 164 keywords.
With the keywords left, I can see all cool sorts of stuff, such as:
- The average searches per day for that keyword.
- The maximum potential daily clicks you could get if you were ranked at #1.
- The monthly traffic trends for that keyword.
- The total daily value of traffic that a website ranked at #1 in Google could potentially achieve.
- …and a whole lot more!
It makes it a whole lot easier to research keywords, and decide which ones to use.
