I’ve now been using the ESCAPE method that Carrie Wilkerson taught during her and Paul Evans DIY ESCAPEÂ workshop, which I took on Friday, September 14th.
Before DIY ESCAPE:
Prior to starting it, my biggest problem was that I had a lot of different things I wanted to get done each day, and I just wasn’t getting it all done. Plus, whenever I was working on anything, I felt like I should be working on something else, which sometimes left me feeling like a deer stuck in headlights. It even got to a point that when I was relaxing or hanging out with friends, I felt guilty thinking I should be getting work done instead.
What I used to do in order to make sure I got certain things done was have a long to do list. I like having a paper copy, so I had purchased a to do notebook from Staples, that had about 20 lines per sheet that could be checked off or crossed off when the task was finished.
Every night I would make a list of all of the things I wanted to get done the next day. I would write something like “Post xyz” or something basic like that so that I wouldn’t forget. Each time I finished something, I’d cross it off the list.
The problem was that while I made sure that certain things were on the list, I didn’t know when I would do them, so sometimes not everything on the list got crossed off. And again, I still felt guilty since not everything I wanted to do was even on the list as there were only so many lines on each page.
Enter DIY ESCAPE. I watched the whole thing live, except for Paul’s last session which he posted over the weekend, and I watched that on Monday morning.
Over the weekend, I went to Target and purchased a weekly planner that I thought would complement the ESCAPE method.
Using DIY ESCAPE:
So it’s now been an entire work week that I’ve been using the ESCAPE method. I’m still getting used to it, so most often I’ve been writing things in either first thing in the morning, or even as the day goes on.
I hope that as I get more used to it, I’ll be able to set up my day either the night before, or more ideally, over the weekend I’ll set up the entire week.
I do not feel guilty when I’m working on something now. I have things set up for specific times, and when I am working on those things, I feel confident that I should be working on them and nothing else.
I also feel like now I’m able to put time towards things I wasn’t able to before, since the way the system is set up to do things in different areas, and not neglect a part of my business.
I feel noticeably less stressed. Because I don’t feel like I should be working on 20 things at a time, and don’t feel like I’m neglecting anything now, I do feel calmer, and like I’m accomplishing something.
Like I said, it’s only been a week so far…and I have a feeling I’ll still need to change a few things around over the next few weeks…but so far it has been very helpful for me.
I’m getting more done, and not feeling guilty about what I’m working on. I also now keep track of the bigger picture, so that instead of getting caught up in small tasks, I keep track of what it really is I want to get accomplished.
Overall Thoughts:
I know that not everyone needs to use something so specific, but if you have a lot going on in your business, I really recommend giving Carrie Wilkerson’s ESCAPE method a chance. I have worked on more tasks that I have “meant to work on” over the past week than I have in the past month. You know how it is – there’s that website that you’re neglecting, but keep pushing it off. With this method, I made sure I spent a certain amount of time on it, and then moved on.
I’m still new to the method, and I’m sure I’ll refine it a little bit over the next few weeks – the weekly planner I got has some extra space that I’m trying to use to make things even simpler for me – but I think that overall this method is going to stay with me.
I still haven’t had time to go over all of the bonuses yet, and there are a lot of them, including 2 other videos to watch (that are around an hour or longer each.)
So I know that there is even more great info available when I need it. But for now I just want to get used to using the ESCAPE method, and then I’ll take a look at the bonuses.
The price is $147, which I think is great for something like this. I can easily say it was worth that (and a whole lot more) for DIY ESCAPE, as even in just one week I’ve accomplished more than I thought I would, and feel like I’m able to work on things now that I wasn’t able to before. Just the peace of mind alone has made it worth it, as I feel a lot less stressed than I was just a week ago.
If you’ve been thinking about registering to watch the replay of DIY ESCAPE, I do strongly suggest it. So far it’s working well for me, and I hope it can do the same for you too.
